Lost-wax casting
3D printed wax designs are being used to create a metal (silver, gold, brass, or bronze) object.
This process requires wax patterns for jewelry. Creating intricate designs can be hard to produce by hand, and it takes a lot of talent to create hand-crafted pieces. Making pieces digitally, is the most common way today and then having it 3D printed with wax-resin.
3D printing elevates the lost-wax casting process with the advantages of a digital design and wax resin printing process:
- Digitally design your pieces
- 3D printed pieces with our wax resin
- Prepare for mold making and attach your object to the sprue base
- Make the mold and set up the investment
-
Burn-out the printed wax resin from the investment in a kiln. Overall burnout times are anywhere from 5 - 12 hours, based on the investment material.
Hour 1: 300 degrees, Hour 2: 700 degrees, Hour 3 and 4: 1350 degrees, Hour 5: 1000 degrees - and hold. - Heat the crucible and cast your melted metal
-
Quench the flask completely under cold water for 2-5minutes
and then let it completely cool down for an hour - Polish and finish the resulting metal part
