Frequently Asked Questions
Which 3D printing method requires support material?
FCF (Full Color Fusion), CEM (Ceramic Extrusion Modeling), LFS (Low Force Stereolithography - also known as Resin Printing), and FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling). The only 3D printing method that does not require support is SLS (Selective Laser Sintering).
Does my 3D design already have to have the support included? Or do you place the support on before printing?
We recommend that you already have the support designed into your 3D model before submitting it to us for the CEM (Ceramic Extrusion Modeling),
LFS (Low Force Stereolithography aka Resin Printing), and FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printing methods.
In the case, that you forgot to add support to your design, our 3D Print Technician can add them before 3D printing for a small fee.
If you are ordering a FCF (Full Color Fusion) 3D print, then the support structure is water-soluble and applied automatically by the slicer or machine, please do not submit files with support structures for FCF.
Since some designs do not require support, maybe in a certain rotation or positioning. How do I know, if my piece will need support?
The Instant Quote tool will be able to determine, if your piece needs support.
If you have any questions, or still unsure, contact us, or send us an email with your file attached, and our 3D Print Technician will be able to advise on this matter.
Do you remove the support material?
We typically remove the support in post-production as best as we are able to. There are still chances that marks are leftover from where the support was, or that thin-walled structures of your piece break away with the support removal.
